Purpose

During the course of offering our services, we may process information that is regulated as biometric information or as a biometric identifier. This policy (“Policy”) establishes The Cognity Inc.’s (“The Cognity,” “we,” “our”) retention schedule and guidelines for permanently destroying biometric information and identifiers. Additionally, the Policy explains The Cognity’s processing of biometric information and identifiers, describes how The Cognity obtains consent for such processing, and details how The Cognity secures biometric information and identifiers. 

Definitions

“Biometric identifier” means a retina or iris scan, fingerprint, voiceprint, or scan of hand or face geometry. 

“Biometric information” means any information, regardless of how it is captured, converted, stored, or shared, based on an individual’s biometric identifier used to identify an individual. 

Processing of Biometric Information

We collect, use, store, and otherwise process your biometric information and identifiers for the purpose of providing you with the services that you request and for our own research and platform development purposes. We do not disclose or disseminate your biometric information and identifiers. You may learn more about our data collection and use practices by reviewing our privacy policy.

Consent

We collect, store, and use your biometric information and identifiers with your consent. You may revoke your consent at any time by contacting us at contact@thecognity.com. You may also review our privacy policy to learn more about how we protect your personal information more generally and for additional choices you may have with regards to your personal information. 

Retention Schedule and Destruction Guidelines

We permanently destroy biometric identifiers and biometric information that we collect or obtain upon the earlier of (1) satisfaction of the initial purpose for collecting such identifiers or information; or (2) three years after the relevant individual’s last interaction with The Cognity. 

We will comply with this Policy unless we need to retain biometric identifiers or biometric information in accordance with our legal obligations. 

Data Security

We employ physical, technical, and administrative procedures to safeguard the biometric information and identifiers that we process. Such security procedures are aligned with the reasonable standard of care within our industry and are performed in a manner that is the same as or more protective than the manner in which we store, transmit, and protect other confidential and sensitive information.
